American Conservatory Theater (ACT) - Geary Theater Reconstruction
Cahill Contractors was the construction manager and general contractor for the reconstruction of ACT's Geary Theater in San Francisco following damage sustained in the 1989 earthquake. The reconstruction was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES).
The theater is a historical structure, and the State Office of Historic Preservation imposed extensive and very stringent requirements for preservation and restoration of original decorative plaster, wood paneling, doors, and the terra cotta exterior. The addition of seismic strengthening elements to the structure required removal of many items classified as historic; these original elements were removed, restored and reinstalled.
