Broadway & Sansome Family Apartments is new construction of 8 stories on a sloping site, built using Type III construction over a Type I concrete podium. This project completes the repair of the former Embarcadero Freeway touchdown sites that was made available through the destruction of the Freeway after the 1989 earthquake. The project architect, Mithun/Solomon, approached the site design with a mixture of building styles to reflect the site's unique transition between the port industrial buildings and the typical San Francisco sloped elevations. The completed project has 75 affordable family apartment units, supportive services offices, ground floor retail, management offices, a multi-purpose community room, and a roof garden play area. Units are a mixture of studio, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units. Build It Green Multifamily guidelines were incorporated and six units are fully ADA accessible.
