Union Square Improvements
Cahill performed a renovation of the four level, 400,000 s.f. garage beneath San Francisco's Union Square and an accompanying remodel of the highly trafficked plaza above the garage. The garage upgrade included installation of four new stair towers, additional light fixtures, added fire protection, new interior paint and garage striping, a revamped mezzanine/office level, a new kiosk, and state-of-the-art parking control equipment. Extensive structural/seismic work was also performed.
The plaza above the garage received approximately 114,000 s.f. of new waterproofing. In order to achieve the new slopes of the plaza, over 3,000 cubic yards of foam fill were installed. The new layout resulted in 14,000 s.f. of rejuvenated planting area, 15,000 s.f. of green lawn, and 78,000 s.f. of new architectural colored concrete. Revised plaza access was provided along Powell and Stockton Streets, and new precast radius steps were built at the four corners of the plaza.
