Prequal Process & Current Opportunies

Cahill is a strong supporter of workforce development programs, seeking to build, strengthen, and diversify the talent entering the construction workforce. These activities include:

  • Being an active participant in local hiring and pre-apprenticeship programs Including Citybuild, CAPSA, Cypress Mandela, and others by:
    • Assisting with teaching class sessions
    • Funding OSHA10 safety courses for participants
    • Actively hiring from these programs, and supporting new hires with mentoring and professional development
  • Participating in youth and career development through John O’Connell High School, Oakland Unified School District, UniteSF, ACE Mentoring, and more
  • Offering internships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds through
    • Construction Industry Workforce Initiative (CIWI)
    • San Francisco and East Bay public school internships
    • ICA Christo Rey of San Francisco work-study program

Celebrating a 12-year partnership with CIWI

Cahill was a founding partner of the Construction Industry Workshop Initiative (CIWI) in 2011.  Over the past 12 years, Cahill has hosted 30 CIWI summer interns and is proud to have seen CIWI grow to provide over 100 internships in real estate, architecture, and construction to disadvantaged college students in the Bay Area. 

Bart Fockler, Superintendent, has been with Cahill for 16 years. After leaving his previous career, he decided to take full advantage of the booming construction industry in San Francisco by doing what he loves – building. Bart says, “the CityBuild program was eye-opening because I had no idea the extent of union trades or even their specific specialties. Through the CityBuild program, I learned of their functions and experienced the testing requirements for entry; furthermore, I learned what it took to be successful!” During his program he was able to meet a superintendent working on the California Academy of Sciences, who explained the complexity of the project, the synchronization of the trades, and the general day-to-day problem solving he and his team dealt with. Understanding the complexities of the project sparked Bart’s enthusiasm for construction and lead him to becoming a carpenter. Years later, he is mentoring others on jobsites that he is leading and passing his passion to the next generation of builders.

Cahill is committed to our employees, clients, and the communities in which we live, work, and build.

Some of our recent events and partnerships organized by Cahill’s Service Committee:

  • LEAP Sandcastle Classic:  Working with AEC partners and a local community school to fundraise, design, and participate in the annual sandcastle contest at Ocean Beach to raise money for arts in education.
  • Habitat for Humanity:  Participating in a build day for local housing
  • SheBuilds:  Annual sponsor of Rebuilding Together’s SheBuilds volunteer day
  • Packing food and necessities for organizations including the SF-Marin Food Bank, One Treasure Island, North Beach Citizens Group
  • Providing holiday decorations and serving food for HomeRise
  • And more!
